This collection of 27 Sahara Neolithic relics is composed of diverse types of relics, which were discovered on ancient habitation sites deep in the south-western Sahara desert, in the vicinity of northern Muaratania. The group consist of several types of projectile points including ovate/willow leaf, stemmed, triangles, and unifacial tools. In all there are 20 stone projectile points and tools, a hardstone celt, a labret, and 5 biconically drilled (in the Neolithic method) beads.
For scale, the longest tool is a Moroccan desert polished blade (seen at bottom right) at approximately 2 5/8th inches (65 mm) in length. The smallest is a 9/16th inch (15 mm) triangle.
These are common everyday work tools and adornments used, and lost or discarded by our Neolithic hunter-gatherer ancestors. They are all honest, authentic relics in good shape, some will exhibit minor damage (as seen in the photograph), such as dings usually to tips, tangs, or barbs (especially on the stemmed points). Small dings are to be expected given their delicacy, usage, and 4000+ years lying in the desert, subject to damage by adverse weather, animals, and now 4-wheel drive vehicles. These relics exhibit good patinas and are a nice sampling of relics from the Western Sahara.
