You are buying a 250ml bottle (approximately half a pint) of pigmented Black ink, specifically formulated for use in HP & Lexmark inkjet printers.

HP and Lexmark printers use a completely different printhead technology from Epson & Canon printers.  The HP & Lexmark printers employ thermal printheads, whereas Epson and (most) Canon printers employ piezo printheads.

In a thermal printhead, the drop of ink to be delivered is formed by annular heaters which heat the tube feeding an individual printhead nozzle, thereby expanding the ink and forcing a drop of ink from the printhead.  In a piezo printhead, crystals either side of the tube are subjected to an electrical charge. The crystals then deform and squeeze a drop of ink from the printhead nozzle.

The characteristics of the ink required for the two different technologies are not the same in terms of viscosity (resistance to flow), wetting tension, solvent content and pigment/dye type.

So called "Universal Inks" are a compromise.  They give fair results with both technologies but are not optimised for either.

We sell only technology specific inks.  Our pigmented Black ink is specifically formulated to give optimum results on HP and Lexmark printers.  It will not give good results on Epson or (most) Canon printers because the flow characteristics are not correct for this technology.
