This is a group of  24 stone Sahara Neolithic beads found on ancient habitation sites deep in the Sahara desert.

These beads are of diverse lithic materials, colors and size which range from approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch diameter (6 - 14 mm). These beads  are good, authentic, examples from the Sahara Neolithic and are bi-conically drilled as was the technique during the Neolithic.  These are in good shape apart from an ancient nick or two, on a couple of beads. 

Ancient beads are interesting in several ways. They were one of the first results of abtrast thinking (thinking beyond survival strategies) dating back prior to 40,000 years BP; the Neanderthals even produced and used them.  Beads  were used extensively  in trade, being all but an ancient form of currency. A neat thing about them is that even after thousands of years they posess their original beauty and can still be incorporated into modern jewelry. These were lost or discarded by our New Stone Age hunter gatherer ancestors a good 3,000+ years ago.
