Sigma is one of the top independent lens manufacturers, and this is an extra wide angle zoom lens for many of the earlier Canon EOS 35mm and APS SLR cameras (see full list below), but not later film or digital cameras. It's in very good condition, and boxed with lens caps and instruction leaflet.

The unusual but useful zoom range covers all the popular focal lengths from 24mm extra wide, through 28mm and 35mm wide angle to 50mm standard. This is an excellent range for wide angle users, making this an ideal all-in-one lens for landscapes, travelling, interiors, groups, reportage and many other subjects.

Close focusing down to 0.4m (16 inches) at all focal lengths. Focusing is automatic or manual on suitable Canon EOS AF cameras (see below), and the lens can also be used with manual focus on the EF-M. Zoom and focus rings have differently-patterned rubber grips, for secure handling. Comprehensive markings, with distances in feet and meters, infrared index and even a basic depth of field scale.

Auto diaphragm and full aperture metering using electrical contacts, compatible with all metering and exposure modes on suitable cameras (see below). Maximum aperture is f/4-5.6, stopping down to f/22-32.

Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light and increased contrast and colour fidelity. Standard, compact 52mm filter thread. This lens is compact and lightweight at under 50mm (2 inches) long on the camera at its smallest settings, and a mere 270g, so there's no excuse for not carrying it around. It's very well built (in Japan), with a solid, metal barrel and lens mount, smooth controls, clear markings and a high standard of fit and finish.

The lens is in fully working order, and auto focus works well if a little more slowly and noisily than the much more expensive USM/HSM lenses, with only a small amount of play in the manual focusing ring and front section. The diaphragm stops down smartly and is free of oil, and the filter thread is undamaged. The glass is in excellent condition with no cleaning marks, fungus or other problems, beyond some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual (including one right at the edge of the front element), which will not affect the pictures in any way. Cosmetically, there is only the usual minor evidence that it's been used - small handling marks here and there, some surface scratches on the rear mount, etc. The box is showing some signs of age, but the accessories are in very good condition.

No dents, dings or deep scratches, the filter thread is undamaged and overall it's in nice shape!

Cameras which are NOT compatible include all digital EOS models, later Canon EOS film models such as the 1V, 1N, 3, 30 (Elan 7E), 30V Date (Elan 7E II), 33 (Elan 7), 33V (Elan 7 II), 300, 300V, 300X, 3000, 3000N, 3000V, 5000, plus the equivalent EOS Elan, Rebel and Kiss models. It should work on earlier Kodak-based EOS Digital SLRs.

Canon EOS mount lenses and accessories do not fit the FD or FL manual focus cameras, or any other make.
