From the Daily Mail:-
Stamps issued with a schoolboy spelling error which left the Royal Mail red-faced are now selling for a small fortune at auction, if you can actually obtain the modern rarity.
Royal Mail was forced to recall thousands of its Glorious England stamp sets, which were to be released on St George's day, because the Isle of Wight was misspelt "Isle of White".
But dozens of the sets ended up in circulation and are fetching hundreds of pounds from collectors at auction.
Bidding for one set of the rare stamps started at £50 and climbed all the way to a winning bid of a staggering £771. Scores more of the colourful sheets have been auctioned off to keen collectors at three-figure sums.
The sets of 10 First Class stamps depict scenes familiar to every Englishman and tourist, from the London Eye and Stonehenge, to black cabs and a village cricket match. But at the last minute it was discovered the stamp which showed the famous Needles rocks on the Isle of Wight carried the words "The Needles - Isle of White" in capital letters. By that time the stamps had already been sent out to Post Offices, Royal Mail outlets and dealers across the country. Postal workers launched a desperate rearguard action to recall every single set and destroy them.
But up to 100 are believed to have slipped through the net.
