The interior is roomy (rear passengers have about as much space as in the old Ford Scorpio, which is a size above the Mondeo's sector of the market) and the seats are comfortable. 500 litres boot space is excellent while the hatchback can expand to a total of 1370 litres with the rear seats folded. The Mondeo also has generous door bins and a good sized glove compartment. The Mondeo's driving position should suit people of most sizes with a reach- and height-adjustable steering wheel as well as good fore and aft movement of the seats.

The Mondeo has a four-star rating for occupant protection in official European crash tests and comes with twin front, side and curtain airbags.

The LX model comes with air-con, CD radio and electric windows all round.
