2004 Classic Locomotives Miniature Sheet No. 22. Increasingly popular British Post Office Mini Sheets. In addition to the evocative Classic Locomotives stamps, the border of the miniature sheet features the livery of the train companies represented on each stamp. The sheet measures 190mm x 68mm. This special set of 6 stamps plus miniature sheet commemorates the 200th anniversary of the first journey on rails by a steam locomotive in February 1804. The inventor and engineer responsible for this achievement was Richard Trevithick. This classic issue features a variety of different types of locomotive travelling on preserved railways around the UK, with the thrill and energy of the steam further enhanced by the 60 x 12mm format. The designers Harold Batten and Mike Denny, chose their subjects to represent a range of locomotive types, ages and railway companies and photographer John Wildgoose travelled the UK to capture the locomotives in their full glory.
