CITROEN XSARA PICASSO SX 16V AUTO - TIP TRONIC- SPORTS GEARBOX:

The Picasso is based on the Xsara hatchback but clever design banished the blandness that dragged its parent down. It outsells Scenic and is a top value choice if you don't need seven-seat capacity.  Equipment is good for the money.

Citroen's willingness to offer spectacular bargains on the Picasso means that it's long enjoyed a reputation as Britain's best-value compact MPV, and was the best-seller for several years running.

Practicality and Comfortable for all five passengers, with a roomy interior and excellent head and legroom. Three seats in the back can be folded and tumbled and are light enough for easy removal, giving Picasso van-like practicality. The compliant suspension works well at isolating the cabin from rougher road surfaces

The instruments are well placed and all controls are easy to reach. The interior looks quite stylish, compared to rivals, the steering wheel and seat are adjustable to find a comfortable driving position.

Safety - It scored comparatively well in Euro NCAP crash tests with four stars. (Euro NCAP Provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe) this is better than most,  all models get ABS, dual front and side airbags and three-point seatbelts for all also all models do get an immobiliser and remote central locking.

Running costs and Servicing costs tend to be competitive and all engines provide good fuel economy.

05 MARCH 2003 (03) - CITROEN XSARA PICASSO SX 16V AUTO:

The first thing that stands out in my eyes is the modern streamline shape. It's different to anything currently on the market, without looking silly.

This outstanding example of the Citroen Picasso, is presented to you in stunning  METALLIC RED paintwork in excellent condition with complimenting child friendly beige / grey velour upholstery which is also in pristine condition. Being the SX derivative this car comes with a very full specification with every piece of equipment for comfort or style you would ever want or need. 

If you have to use a child seat, it is very easy to get your child in and out without breaking your back, as the Picasso is higher than standard cars, you can get them in and out with ease.

On the floor in the rear there are two concealed storage areas which can be covered by floor mats so they can be hidden if required. you can keep the service book and owners manual in one, and child's bits in the other.

Another major plus point about the Picasso is the boot space. It is very large, and will fit a pram, a buggy and shopping in there all at once...with space to spare. The actual boot lid opens at two levels, it opens at one level automatically, you can also pull it up to the fully opened position if required.

Concentrating on the front of the car again...the steering wheel is height adjustable, and there are CD, radio, volume controls on a stalk coming out from the right side. The computerised Dash Board - normally you have 1/2 circles behind your steering wheel where you keep an eye on speed, petrol gauge, mileage etc. In the Picasso, there is nothing behind the wheel, but in the middle of the dash board is a computerised LED screen. In BIG numbers you can watch you speed change digitally and give an accurate speed such as 28mph instead of you attempting to guess. The large display is clear to read, and understand without constantly having to consult your handbook.

There is another stalk coming out from the right of the steering wheel and this is how you use the digital display. It will show your average speed, how many miles you have left before you need to put fuel in, average mile per gallon , date, which radio station you are tuned into or CD including which track you are listening to. After a few goes, you soon get the hang of it. It is very user friendly, and whichever function you are on, it will display on the LED panel in the middle of the dashboard. Also on the LED panel is the temperature, fuel indicator and the mileage. You can switch the display off if required or dim the brightness. It also displays the outside temperature and warns you of the risk of ice if applicable. There is another stalk where you can control the speed of the cruise control, all with the slight press of your finger tips.

There are a few fancy little features of this car. E.g. If you have your front windscreen wipers on and you put the gear stick into reverse, the rear windscreen wiper automatically comes on clearing your view from the back window.

This model has air conditioning and electric front windows. On the dashboard there is a button which locks all the doors, a comforting feature. As you open the drivers door, there is an option to turn off the passenger airbag so you can put a child seat there. It is simple to do using your key. A light then is permanently on the LED display telling you the passenger airbag is deactivated.

This Picasso is powered by a well-proven and gutsy 137 Bhp  2.0 petrol engine. The car is not under powered or thirsty like the  other engine range, and will return a respectful average 32.9 mpg.

This Picasso being very rare is an AUTO, simply put the gear leaver into drive press the accelerator and go, if you need them extra revs for overtaking there is a SPORTS button to press. However if you feel you need more control of the cars engine there is a TIP TRONIC option that allows you to select a higher or lower gear simply by moving the leaver up or down into the desired gear. You would normally expect these options in an expensive BMW or MERCEDES.

This car has covered  70,350 Miles in its 5 years life.  This Picasso is  built to an extremely high quality and standard like you would expect from a CITROEN. The car has only had 2 former keeper. It was purchased  new on 5th March 2003.

An MOT was carried out on 3rd March 2006 when the mileage was 44754 by Worleys Garage,  an MOT was carried out on 8th March 2007 where the mileage was 57159 by Worleys Garage, and the current MOT was carried out on 5th June 2008 where the mileage was 70283.  Since the MOT the car has only done less than 100 miles. I have the service book with 5 Dealer  stamps in it. The last service (stamp 5)  was carried out on the 24th July 2007 @ 61,618 miles. However the Picasso had extra maintenance work carried out by HIGH WYCOMBE CITROEN where some of the parts replaced were the Injectors, Spark Plugs, Calculator Module and the Transponder Module. Other work has also been carried out as routine maintenance please view the printout picture for more details. The next service will not be as expensive as these major parts were replaced @ 64,844 miles on 20th November 2007.  The current MOT expires on the 4th June 2009.

This vehicle does not fall into the new Road Tax band for petrol guzzling executive cars, hence will continue to benefit from the lower tax band. The current charges for this Rover is only £112.75 six months or £205.00 twelve months. THIS PICASSO CAN BE TAXED AT COST, plus £10 admin fee. TEST DRIVE

The engine starts first turn of the key hot or cold, it idles smoothly and revs freely to the red line with no hesitations,  it is free of any oil or coolant leaks, the exhaust system is also gas tight. The automatic gearbox operate perfectly, it goes straight into forward or reverse gears without any baulking, it changes gear smoothly with no obstructions or crunching of gears.

For a MPV this Picasso this is a very agile and fast car, you do have to remember that you are driving a people carrier. The wheels are fitted with AVON ZV3 185/65R/15 tyres all round, that are all in good condition, as you would expect.

SUMMARY

These cars are good value for money now, but like any car you have to weed out the good ones from the bad, and our car most certainly falls in the "good" category, so go ahead and bid with confidence that you are buying a lovely example of this Picasso. 

The Picasso has a full MOT and has a supporting printout which totals £2490.97 from 31st December 2004 to now.

All these plus points and very few minus's make these cars a very practical alternative to an expensive diesel car that is noisy and very expensive to fill up. Whatever your use, we are sure it  will fit the bill for you and your family at a price that will not make the bank manager break out in a cold sweat!

FAULTS:

The overall condition of the car is excellent, The general condition of the body work is excellent,  Being very thorough  there are a few stone chips on the bonnet, grill, and wings,  there are also a few minor surface scratches here and there (may polish out), the driver seat has NO signs of wear and tear and the rest of the interior is also in excellent condition.  There  is a stone chip on the passenger side of the front windscreen, there are scuffs on the rear bumper,  there is a dent on the driver side rear quarter and boot lid. The wheel trims have also got slightly scraped and chipped in some places. Please view gallery.

The car has 70K+  miles,  I may have missed some scratches, but in my view nothing needs attention, the car  has years of drive left in it..
