Messel Fish Fossils
Unprepared Eocene Fossils from Messel, Germany
Two superb and large examples of fossil fish from Messel, near Frankfurt, Germany, Atractosteus sp. and Cyclurus sp. on matrices of 13.75" x 5" and 7.6" x 7.3" respectively. Beautiful colouring and excellent preservation of fins, rays and vertebrae and even teeth. A very rare find, this piece was bought as part of a large collection dating from the early 1970's. A rare chance to obtain unprepared fossil fish from Messel.
Preparation of these sought after fossils is relatively straightforward, however the real diffiulty with Messel material is acquisition, since the site is no longer open to public collecting.
