In mirror mode the RAID controller automatically writes data to both disks at once. If a disk failed the data can continue to be accessed on the other disk drive, and it re-synchronises to a new disk when it is replaced.
The PC is not aware of the RAID function. It thinks it is communicating with a single disk. | |

The Seagate 7200.12 disk drive is the very latest model just released, with 500GB per platter technology enabling the disk to use less power and generate less noise and heat.
This great value external dual-disk RAID drive is great for those needing performance and data safety. Using the disk in its RAID 1 Mirror configuration will give you 500GB of capacity, with your data automatically being written to both disks at the same time. If a disk failed, then your data would be safely held, and can still be accessed, on the other disk drive.
Other dual disk configurations are also possible by changing jumpers inside the enclosure. See the detailed panel (below right) and let us know if you want a different configuration (such as RAID 0 striping) set before shipment. Please note that your data is lost when you switch between different RAID modes, so it must be set before you start adding data.
This product is aimed at PC users with eSATA or USB 2.0 ports. You will get significantly faster performance using eSATA. If your PC motherboard has SATA disk connectors, but not external eSATA ports then we can supply a PCI adaptor plate with an eSATA port that connects through to a motherboard SATA connector.

The LED panel enables you to see status of power, disk access,
failures, and rebuilding or verifying of a RAID array.
Supplied in a neat retail box:
We configure the disk as a RAID-1 mirror.
If you want other configurations please let us know when you order. Jumpers inside the enclosure allow the following options:
Non-RAID: The drives will show up as two independent drives. When using eSATA in this mode only one disk is seen unless your PC has Port Multiplier (PM) Support in the SATA controller.
JBOD - Big Disk Spanning: The two drives show up as one large single drive. Spanning is an array (not RAID) that is written sequentially across the two drives. By itself, it does not provide any performance or redundancy benefits.
RAID 0 - Striping: Used where speed is the primary objective, RAID Level 0 (also called "striping") is not redundant, and therefore does not technically conform to the definition of a RAID. This form of array splits each piece of data across both of the drives in segments; since data is written without any form of parity data-checking, it allows for the fastest data transfer of all other RAID levels. However, if one drive becomes damaged, the whole array can become corrupted.
RAID 1 - Mirroring: A RAID 1 creates an exact copy (or mirror) of a set of data on the second drive. This is useful when reliability and backup are more important than data capacity. The available capacity to the user will only be as large as a single drive but when one of the hard drives fails, it can be replaced and the data rebuilt automatically.
The enclosure has an LED indication at the front to show the status of the hard drives. When a drive fails, the corresponding LED will turn red.
Warranty: 2 year, return to base.
During the 24 month warranty a faulty product is returned at the customer's expense and replaced and returned at our expense.
