When buying any rare book, either as an addition to your bookshelf or as an investment opportunity, the condition is of paramount importance. This first impression OHMSS is in Very Good condition approaching Very Good + condition while the original dust jacket is in Very Good condition, possibly better.
With the original cloth boards, firm, pleasing and impressive, the boards are clean with the unique ski design to the front intact and perfect. The boards are clean with just a small white mark to the rear, mentioned to ensure accuracy. The book has extremely minor shelfwear and edging again mentioned to ensure an accurate description. Other than these very minor faults, these are very nice almost perfect boards. The book has a slight lean and a bit of bumping to the spine. The beautiful, shiny silver lettering is intact and bright.
The pages are intact and present, with both white endpapers, and are clean with no missing pages and no inscriptions. The book has a few minor blemishes to a few pages and the page block edges and a neatly written inscription to the front pastedown dated 1963. Other than that, this is a very nice book indeed, with crisp clean pages and one that has been read seldom. NOT ex-library.
The original dust wrapper is a true 1st/1st dust wrapper, issued with the book in 1963, the genuine article protecting the genuine article. In Very Good condition, from the mind of Richard Chopping, with colours that have held well since 1963. The genuine wrapper remarkably has no chipping and is firm and completely intact with barely a nick. If it wasn't for some foxing to the jacket and some grubby marks, I would have rated this jacket as better than Very Good. As it is, it's still very nice. Particularly pleasing for Bond fans and collectors that this original wrapper has not been price clipped and still shows the 16 shilling original UK price.
