19th Century Tunbridgeware-Style Dome Top Walnut Fitted Jewellery Box; Locking/Key

On offer is a 19th century Tunbridgeware-style, cushion or dome top jewellery box finished in figured walnut with twin bands of geometric parquetry inlay; diamond-shaped inlaid cartouche & escutcheon; locking with key.

This box is offered in good antique condition for around 130 years old with no major issues; no shrinkage cracks & no loss of veneer or inlay. It has few of the usual defects one would expect with abox of this age: scratches, knocks, marks, chips etc. There is a small indent on the RHS & 2 more smaller ones on the rear of the lid-mentioned for accuracy, & a little touching up here & there but in my view absolutely nothing to detract from a nice, smart antique jewellery box.

The interior is quite striking with cerise coloured ruched silk lid panel fitted a retaining strap for vanity/manicure items. Below is a fitted, lift-out, tray with silvered finish & 7 open compartments to keep jewellery tangle-free (pics # 5, 6, 9 & 10). This lifts out to reveal a large space below for larger items (pic # 10). All of the stop hinges, lock & keep are solid. The lock works but is a little fiddly. The interior is crisp & clean though obviously showing some signs of wear.

It is a decent size at 10" by 6 1/2" by 6" high & weighs 968 grammes or approaching 1 kilo. To post in the UK will be £5.41 standard parcels. Overseas bidders please mail for quote.
