19th Century "Retablo" Painting, Oil on Copper from PeruIn Mexico, these are called Retablos. This is an original oil on copper painting, one of three
outstanding devotional items that I am listing this week out of a personal collection spanning the past 23 years. Absolutely gorgeous Peruvian hand painted oil on copper of La Divina Pastora the Divine Shepherdess. At least I'm assuming it is Peruvian as that was where it was found. This is an extremely RARE image to be found in Peru, however. The cult of the Divine Shepherdess started in either Spain or France depending on who you ask, the image of the virgin as the shepherd of mankind.
Size is 6 3/8" x 71/8". Condition is as found, has been restored and varnished to protect it. It's a professional job, but the original scratches and losses can be seen underneath. These are usually scratched and have paint losses and it isn't unusual to find them restored. FLAT SHIPPING COST of 5.50 which includes delivery confirmation within continental US, foreign sales include $4.00 handling charge.

Not sure how to tell?
As I browse this category on Ebay, I find that 80 to
90% of items listed as 18th century are actually of this century or at
best late 19th century. I KNOW--I've been trading in Latin American art and handcrafts for 23 years. Check out my
