This is a very fine and very collectible 19th century pewter plate with a triple set of marks on the reverse, although the maker's identity is not readily apparent from the marks. The initials "A & S" appear at the bottom of the cartouche. The phrase, "FEIN ANGLICH BLOCK ZINN" is from a European language and therefore a hint as to the origin of the work. The work is 8-1/4 inches in diameter by 1 inch tall, and the condition is very good with only minor signs of wear and typical splotches of darkening mostly spread around on the bottom. The metal is very hard (lots of zinc, I believe) and very smooth to the touch. My impression is that this plate gleamed like buffed sterling silver when it was newly produced (and could again if that were the objective). This is one of two very similar plates that I am offering this round, so please see the other as well. This and all the pewter items listed are the normal pewter color, but are seen in my photographs as golden or yellowish because of the incadescent light bulbs I use for the photography. My apology for any confusion that results from the golden hue of my pewter items. This is a high quality collector's antique that is available to you at a modest opening bid. Thank you for visiting my auctions, and good luck to you in all your bidding. bdr
