1999 Saab 9-3 SE with LPG

For sale is my 1999 Saab 9-3 SE. I have owned the car since 2004 and the car has completed 179,000 miles. It has a new MOT valid for 12 months plus 6 months tax. The car is the 2000cc model without turbo.

It is in good condition with very tidy interior and mechanically is in very good working order. The bodywork is in very good condition with just a few small marks here and there as you’d expect with any car of this age.

It has a professional LPG conversion (complete with insurance certificate) and as a result has very low running costs. LPG is currently around 50 pence per litre and the car gives about the same miles per gallon on LPG and petrol. As a result the fuel costs are about 50% of that of a Saab 9-3 running on petrol. The LPG tank is a good size (100litres) so it will do over 300 miles on a tank.

Although the car has completed a fairly high mileage, these are strong reliable cars. Much of the mileage completed has been on LPG, this helps to prolong engine life as the fuel burns very cleanly and ensures that the oil and the inside of the engine remains clean. The car has been regularly serviced by local Saab specialists, and I have changed the oil and filters every 6000 miles in between the main services.

The car was registered in Northern Ireland by its previous owner so has a Northern Irish plate (3 letters and 4 numbers – not age related). The car is fitted with a tow bar although it has done almost no towing, we had it fitted to carry our bike rack.

I have tried to describe the car as honestly as possible and obviously for a car of this age there are a few small issues. These are listed below:

• The interior fan has an intermittent fault, I replaced the fan controller with a new item recently but this has not solved the problem. It probably needs a new fan motor, this isn’t a huge job but one I haven’t got around to.

• As with most Saabs of this age the dash computer screen has lost some of its pixels, the screen can be replaced for about £70 (search for “Saab SID” on eBay) but it doesn’t really tell you anything important so I haven’t replaced it.

• There is a small scrape on the front nearside bumper, the plastic is not broken but the paint is scuffed slightly.

• If you want to use the air conditioning it will need recharging. The lack of tropical summer has meant that I haven’t bothered!

If you are interested then I would strongly encourage you to view the car before buying, the car is taxed and MOT’d as explained above and my insurance policy is valid until midnight on Saturday the 7^th November so if you want to test drive it then it must be before then.
