This coin commemorates the "UK"s Presidency of the Council of the Ministers and the completion of the Single European Market.

This is now quite a rare coin as only just over £50,000 worth were minted.

 

The design is a representation of a table on which are placed twelve stars, linked by lines to each other and twelve chairs. The letter UK appears on one of  chairs at the head of the table with the dates 1998 above  and the  value 50 PENCE below.

The coin was designed by Mary Milner Dickens.

Obverse: Maklouf head, inscription ELIZABETH llD G REG FD, starting to the bottom left of the head.

Reverse: Conference table with seats and stars.
