Summary: The MK III Golf did not deliver a class-leading performance in terms of how it drove, but it was the most desirable car in its class and has significantly more clout with buyers than the Escort and Astra. This is mainly thanks to build quality, finish, and conservative styling which has aged with dignity. But popularity has a downside and it's that Golf can be expensive to buy - so make sure you don't pay too much. This is one of our favourite used car buys, it represents so much car for very little money and this one is probably the best used MK3 golf we have come across.

Technical Data: Engine Size 2.0cc, Power 115 BHP, Top Speed 123 MPH, 0-60 -9.3, 37 MPG, Insurance Group 14.

Test Drive: This Golf drives so well you could be mistaken for thinking that it had covered just half it's recorded miles. The engine is very strong pulling with vigour from idle all the way to the red line showing no signs of flat spots or hesitation. It starts on the key first time with no hesitation then settles to a smooth quiet idle. On the open road the performance is more then adequate, providing plenty of acceleration for Motorway driving and safe overtaking while returning excellent fuel economy. The clutch and gearbox are smooth and engaged without any hesitation, the brakes are strong and progressive with little sign of fade on our test drive.

Exterior & Interior: Although we will endeavour to find any exterior and interior marks/faults we are only human and we may miss the odd mark/scratch here or there or the odd electrical malfunction. You are more then welcome to come and use your own eyes to view/prod/drive the car during the auction. After the auction there will be no negotiation over any points.

Overall we would state the cars exterior is in good condition for it's mileage and age. Please note the car was appraised in the rain so some small marks may have been missed. Noted imperfections: Drivers side; Some very light small scratch marks and fine paint chips. Passenger side; A few typical age and mileage related usage marks and some fine front wing scratch marks. Rear; A few typical usage marks in association with age and miles. Front; Stone chips to the leading edge of the bonnet and a crack in the passenger side fog light. Windscreen; The windscreen has a 30cm crack on the drivers side and a small bullet crack on the passenger side.

The interior is in very good condition, you would be hard pressed to tell that this car had covered 60,000 let alone 115,000. There is no sign of any wear or tear, bar a few usage soiled marks on the dark upholstery which with a quick steam clean will easily disappear. All the electrics tested worked without failure bar the passenger side electric window which is slow when going up and sometimes gets stuck near the top and the passenger side wing mirror which only goes up and down and not left and right.
