The time has come to part with my impreza project. The car is a 96 WRX Wagon in Silver and was imported in 2006 I have owned the vehicle for nearly a year and barely driven it. Instead my time has been spent bringing this car back to life and adding some nice touches. My original plan was to use it as a weekend track tool and run around but iv'e become so busy with work and family commitments (and two other cars!) that i never have the time to work on it which is a shame as the car really is excellent and deserves the attention. Right, about the car.. I bought it locally from a garage where it had been taken in as part ex. iv'e owned a couple of scoobs before this and knew what to look for and did view several others before this one. The car had no service history documentation except the cambelt service sticker under the bonnet which indicated it had been done recently. On first impression it looked very clean for it's age and the engine fired immediately, was quiet and once warm was ticking over nicely. i noticed the brake resovoir was a bit low but nothing else was un-toward and the oil was fresh and had recently been changed. Upon road test i found the brakes were in need of attention and the handling was a bit soft but the engine pulled well with no smoke and sounded healthy. I knew instantly that this was the car and that the niggles could all be sorted easily. I got the car home and set about ordering parts and stripped the car down to give it a good cross examination. The car is rust free and the steering components are in good order. The interior is very clean and the seats in excellent condition. the body work has a few dinks but nothing major enough to worry about as a track vehicle, very typical for a car of its age and barely noticeable until you get in close. the worse bits being a small crease on the offside rear door of about 10cms, a chip on the rear bumper loading area, two scuffs on the corner of the front and rear bumpers and some paint missing from the near side wing mirror mount (never got the time to sort it,wouldnt take much). Mechanically the only problem (if you can call it one) is the idle control valve is either dirty or on the way out but is soon corrected with a few blips on the throttle. The ecu has been read and sure enough code 24 (idle control valve) came back but nothing else. The following is a list of the work carried out and parts both fitted and spare. Get ready......
