We
are pleased to offer a 1996 Range Rover 4.0 Automatic.
After 25 years
from the introduction of the first generation Range Rover, the second
generation Range Rover — model-designation P38A (see note below)
— was introduced for the 1995 model year, with an updated version
of the Rover V8 engines. There was also the option of a 2.5-litre BMW
6 cylinder turbo-diesel and this was later reinforced by BMW's subsequent
ownership of Rover Group & hence the Land Rover brand.
The new model
was even more luxurious, answering the evolution of the Mercedes G-Wagen,
positioning the vehicle above the Land Rover Discovery and the increasing
presence of Japanese SUV's. It incorporated new engine management (smoother
and more powerful) and improved air suspension that allowed automatic,
speed proportional height adjustment. This could also detect when the
vehicle had become 'grounded' and attempt to raise itself to maximum height
in an attempt to gain traction.
* Many people refer
to this generation of Range Rover by the designation P38 or P38A, neither
of which is the original LR designation. The project was code-named Pegasus
internally by Land Rover, and this, coupled with the project being housed
in Solihull's block 38A resulted in the unofficial designation P38A, which
became common use company-wide, too.
The car comes with
the private registration number J70 RWS included in the sale.
This
Range Rover has a LPG gas kit fitted but we are informed by it's previous
owner that is does not work. Please note the following:
1.
We do not know why it doesn't work
2.
We do not know who fitted it
3.
We do not know what type of system it is.
We
do know it has two 80 litre tanks fitted in the boot and a valve to fill
the gas on the back bumper. Under the bonnet there do appear to be pipes/tubes
that would accompany such an installation.
The
on board computer states the following faults:
ABS
FAULT
EAS
FAULT (intermittently) (The previous owner told us that when he had the
car MOTd the garage had told him he required a sensor replacing on the
OSF suspension, this is most likely the cause of this fault)
The
top half of the tailgate will open but the bottom will not.
The
car has 11 service stamps in the book.
This car comes
equipped with;

Bodywork

The
bodywork of this car is in decent condition for its age and mileage. There
are some stone chips and light marks but nothing major worth noting and
no obvious rust. As always do come to view the car to get the best impression.
Interior

The
interior of the car is okay but shows a few more signs of wear and tear
than the exterior. The driver's seat has suffered some wear on the edge
from people sliding in and out of the car. The plastic trims which cover
where the armrests attaches to the chair are both missing.
Driving

The engine
starts well and the car drives fine. The big V8 with the GEMS injection
has quite a throaty rumble to it. If run on gas the car would be quite
a lot more economical to run.
Come
and see the car for yourself to get the best idea of what it is like.
We
do not comprehensively
inspect the cars and are not the previous
owners so have little experience of them.
If
you choose not to view the car before bidding please be aware that the
car will not be a brand new vehicle when you arrive. You are bidding to
buy, not view.
We
do not inspect the condition of
alternator belts, clutches, air conditioning pumps or any components.
We get in the car and describe what we see and drive the car and describe
what it's like to the best of our ability.
If
you are quite particular, have specific concerns or want to make sure
everything is entirely perfect we recommend you view the car in person.
Buying
a cheap part-exchange car through ebay WITHOUT seeing it first is best
left to experienced car buyers who understand what they are buying and
what the typical condition of the car might be.
We do not accept responsibility for unrealistic expectations.
