I've owned this car for around four years and in that time it's been 100% reliable. It was serviced in October - oil and filter change, new front springs, diff oil, general suspension check, new tyre, etc... I have fully stamped history (Merc and specialist) up until around 108,000 miles and I have recipts for annual services since then along with recipts for new parts. I have thousands and thousands of pounds worth of receipts and lots and lots of MOTs to prove the mileage. It's a v honest car. I had a peculiar power drain a couple of years ago, and replaced all leads, the battery, plugs, distributor cap, etc... trying to find it. Turned out to be because it was running an underpowered alternator. I replaced this with one suited for a 300TE and since then no problems at all. I have also replaced the water pump, as it began to overheat and it turned out the pump was blocked. Apart from that, it's only needed tyres and servicing. I have absolutely loved every moment of owning it, and if I had space for it I'd definitely keep it. To answer the common questions relating to this model: The head gasket has been changed. Receipts to prove of course. Was done a few years ago and is still 100% so you know it was a good job. The auto boot close, the electric mirrors, the windows, the stereo, the heating, the sun-roof, all work fine. The gear-box is perfect. Changes smoothly and never does anything it shouldn't. The arches are solid, not rusty. The windscreen has been replaced because it started going opaque as many do. Bad points It has recently developed a noisy wheel bearing. It passed the MOT with it, but it's annoying on long journeys at speed. Can't hear it when you go round corners or if you're driving in town though! The tracking needs doing. I just had new springs at the MOT and if it doesn't sell I guess I'll book it in for a bearing and tracking at the same time. Would drive like a new car with those jobs done. Thanks to the local kids, one wing mirror was knocked off and the only red electric heated one I could find at the time was off a coupe. It works 100% as it should, but has a slightly longer base mount. Looks ok though as you can see in the pics. There's some laquer peel on the rear corner. There's a brand new scratch on the same rear quarter that happened when the car was parked outside my house last week (paint only, not down to metal). There are assorted small dents and scratches and so on that won't come out in photos. It polishes up to look near perfect though. Although the Sportline interior is nice, the driver's seat bolster has a hole in it. All my own work I'm afraid, as when I got the car it was all intact but a bit thin. Have debated patching it using material from the map pockets behind each seat...but at the moment it's just a hole. Ok...that's it. I feel this is a 100% honest description and as a result I have to insist you bid to buy. We're all aware of the risks of selling on Ebay to non-payers, and if you bid and don't buy you'll be reported. I am very happy for people who want to come along and take a look to visit me for a test drive and inspection. Car is advertised elsewhere, so I reserve the right to remove it if sold offline. Cheers, Jim On 04-Nov-09 at 09:27:26 GMT, seller added the following information: More pics added this morning. Under bonnet and a better pic of the car. Cheers! |
