IMPORTANT: I have
previously suffered from the curse of the low feedback winning bidders
who don't make contact. I appreciate we all have to start somewhere
but anyone with a feedback of 5 or less or negatives for non paying
please contact me first before bidding or your bid will be removed.
Sorry to sound harsh but I really don't want to be mess around again
and I'm sure any genuinely interested bidders wouldn't want to be
bidding against a unverified low feedback newbie either. And this
Bentley was won last week by a Belgium Bidder who after no replies to
my numerous emails, I telephoned after obtaining his number from eBay.
Apparently he has no knowledge of winning any Bentley despite being
out bidded on two other similar auctions! Please serious bidders only. Rant over,
back to the description.............
With the rise of Maggie's
Millionaires during the mid 80's, came a higher level of luxury and
performance cars. Few, incorporated both attributes with anywhere near
the same level of prowess as the Bentley Turbo R. The car that changed
perceptions and truly epitomised 80's success. This model deserves
credit for putting the legendary brand back in the mindset of
performance enthusiasts everywhere. It returned respect to the winged
'B' marque, a respect that has never since receded.
For the majority of its
life
this Bentley was owned by
Lord King of Wartnaby, the Chairman of British Airways. Dubbed
Margaret Thatcher's favourite businessman, he was famous for leading
British Airways from a inefficient, nationalised company to one of the
most successful airlines of recent times. Brought new in 1989 by Lord
King who owned the Bentley until 2002. As you would expect this
Bentley has enjoyed a pampered life being chauffeured driven from Lord
King's 2000-acre estate in Leicestershire to British Airways head
quarters in London. Naturally has been fatuously maintained regardless
of cost with full documented service history detailed below.
Cost nearly £130000 new,
more than the price of a average house at the time. These Bentley's
have depreciated to its lowest point so now is a great time to buy a
Turbo R as prices are sure to rise. You just have to see the buoyant
market the Bentley T1 and T2 are now enjoying. This Bentley Turbo R is
a fine example with service history that would be hard to match and
yet still listed with a realistic reserve price. 5 day auction.

The inside is showing
just minimal signs of wear. The black hide leather seats are in
excellent condition with just the drivers seat being slightly worn.
There is a small indentation on the leather in the middle rear seating
section. The gorgeous walnut trim is on superb condition with none of
the lacquer pealing anywhere. The door cards are in excellent
condition. There is a small insignificant scuff on top of the
dash. The carpet has just one small tear to the side of the brake
pedal. The lambs wool mats are excellent condition with just a small
tear on the drivers heel section. I recommended any passenger to take
their shoes off to experience just how lush and thick the carpets are.
The headlining has no marks, discolouration or tears. Comes with the
original Blaupunkt stereo which still sounds great even in comparison
to more modern units. The car phone can easily be removed if required,
works fine and just needs a sim card. The contacts menu of the phone
reads like a who's who's of 90's aristocracy. Everything works
perfectly though the rear windows are very slow and needing a helping
hand especially the drivers side. The air conditioning is ice cold.
Fitting with a bomb
detector which I have no idea how it works or even if it does. Though
if you see all the detector lights illuminated and you have recently
upset someone maybe you should reconsider opening the door. The
dipstick oil level indicator is a bit temperamental. Of course it
wouldn't be a Bentley without a cloud like ride and the team from
Crewe made sure that not a peddle would be felt. Elegant
styling, incredible refinement and the ability to cruise effortlessly,
make the Bentley grand tourer extraordinaire.

The Turbo R requires a
potent power source to move it's two and a quarter ton bulk, it got it
in the form of a turbocharged 6.75-litre V8 producing 385bhp. For a
car of it's size acceleration is remarkable, 60mph arriving in just
6.7 seconds and onto a maximum speed of 150mph. The Turbo R is all
about performance without compromising the ability to cruise
effortlessly in unsurpassed comfort. | | | | |
