1978 Reliant Scimitar Convertible. Like a GTC, but actually converted from an SE.6A by Avon Customs in Bristol, who carried out about 5 of these conversions. It's fitted with the SE.6A's 3.0 litre Ford Essex V6 with Weber carburetor, linked to an auto box. The engine has a stainless steel exhaust systems and tubular headers. Mechanically it runs fine, with no smoking, or overheating. The original fibre timing gear wheel has been replaced with the longer lifed steel version. The mechanical fuel pump has been replaced with an electric pump, fitted to the rear chassis. An in line fuel filter was fitted this year. The hose from the stainless steel, expansion was replaced this year as was the fuel line from the engine bulkhead to the carburetor. The alternator belt was also replaced this year. The auto box works as it should, including the kick down. Two new tyres have been fitted, as too have the wheel nuts and sill kick plates, with custom made stainless steel ones. Underneath the chassis has been Waxoyled. One new disc and the front pads replaced. The hood is servicable, but looking a little tired. I understand a replacement GTC hood can be fitted as a replacement if desired. The interior is in good condition, upholstered in a mid blue vinyl, with only slight wear to the piping on the driver's seat. As well as the front inertior reel belts, the read seats have lap belts. Windows are electrically operated. Chrome wiper blades were fitted this year and some tidying carried out to the paint on the sills, door openings and black exterior trim. Where parts have been removed, any rusted screws have been replaced by stainless steel ones, or reprotected with Hammerite or Waxoyl. The car would benefit from a re-spray at some time, but is in a usable condition with some cracking of the paint in odd areas. A towing hook removed from the car is available to refit if wanted. Insurance is cheap with a Classic Car Policy. Spares cheap and easy to obtain. All in all, I would describe it as a rare and interesting car, that with continued attention has the potential to be a show winner. I'm only selling it as I need the space in my garage for storage. You can view the car during the auction near Bedford (J13/M1) if you ring me on 07714 295667. |
