1978 FORD ESCORT MK2 (poss V8?). RACE RALLY TRACK SHOW

1978 Mk2 Escort 4-door

V5 (registered to me) states it is 1300 Popular Plus first reg 05/05/78. Last on the road in 1992, dry stored for most of the time since.

PLEASE NOTE THIS HAS NO ENGINE, GEARBOX, OR PROP FITTED

Rot-free shell/chassis. Underneath has been seam welded to a very high standard. Bulkhead & transmission tunnel has been modified to accept a V8 Auto. Top mounts reinforced. New front wing, front panel & slam panel, new sills, new rear arches.

 Rear arches modified to fit the (wider) Capri axle, these are welded in nicely, just need a skim of filler to flush in. – see pics as they almost look standard! Capri 6j x 13’s/ Minilights will fit happily, but others would fit as well.

Suspension: Front. Leda 2.25 coilovers with Capri vented discs & Princess 4-pot callipers. (Calipers are off at present as they wont fit the wheels on at the mo.)

Rear: Capri axle with uprated leaf springs, lowering blocks & Monroe Gas-Matic shocks.

Wiring etc is all there – standard 1300 Pop Plus stuff. Interior is standard 1300 Pop plus cloth seats.

Work needed: Rear panel (see pics) needs replacing/patching. Paint. Engine/box/prop.

Due to the bulkhead/tunnel mods, this car (as it is) would be suitable for something 4 cyl/V6/V8 Auto to be dropped in for road use. However, for competition use, whatever you want!

(I have taken the Ford Mustang 302V8 & C4 autobox out to use in something else. It WILL take a Ford 302, Rover V8, possibly a smallblock Chevy? – its up to you…)

If you wanted to go back to manual trans, the tunnel has been welded in very well so it could be cut out & replaced with a smaller world cup item. (A welder friend tells me this could be done for around £50).

Escort Mk2 4-door clean, complete, seam-welded shell. Good Rally/Rallycross/Grasstrack/Drag project – or AMAZING Road project. Leda/Monroe suspension & (rare as hens teeth!) Princess 4-pot callipers.

What you need: A TRAILER/TRANSPORTER! It doesn’t have an engine/box/prop & you wont be able to drive it home! (Sorry to genuine e-bayers, but there are some idiots out there! – you know what I mean.). I cannot transport it for you.

It is located near Chichester, West Sussex. Postcode PO18. Inspection welcome, but this will have to be at weekends or by torchlight during the week after 6.30pm. (Ask seller a question to arrange).
