1973 MGB Roadster 1.8 Zetec, Tax exempt Chrome Bumper

Genuine UK MGB Roadster, Registered April 1973, built November 1972, so it is tax exempt, I have the BMIH dating Certificate.

Taxed and tested to October 2010

Completely rebuilt from the shell upwards:

Leather seats, new carpets, has a tonnau, and support sticks, I have a hood frame but there is no hood.

Modified, and refinished dashboard, looks like new.

4 new wings, 2 new floors, new centre cross member, all 10 sill parts replaced, bulkhead sides replaced, new front valance, re-skinned US spec doors with side impact protection, new inner rear arches, all heritage panels used.

New MGOC Windscreen and surround.

MGC Bonnet,

All seals new - doors bonnet boot etc.

ALL suspension bushes replaced with superflex poly bushes, new front springs, front and rear Bilstein Shock absorbers, fronts have special upper wishbones, they DO NOT use the old lever arm damper as a bone.

New King Pin assemblies.

Reconditioned steering rack.

All new wheel bearings and rear axle overhauled.

All suspension components shot blasted and re-finished in black enamel.

New drilled and grooved front discs, with rebuilt callipers and EBC pads, later model tandem master cylinder.

New fuel tank, and electronic pump.

Underneath this car is white, same as the bodywork, not a trace of underseal.

Fitted with a 2001 Ford Focus Zetec engine, and 5 speed MT75 gearbox, engine is standard, but running Kawasaki ZXR750 Carburettors on a custom Bogg Brothers manifold, and megajolt 3 dimensional programmable electronic ignition, a custom exhaust manifold links up to a standard MGB stainless exhaust. Engine does need rolling road tuning, as the tickover when warming up is lumpy. Radiator is from a BGTV8, all hoses are silicone, and the heater does work as it should.

The speedo and tacho have been rebuilt and calibrated to match the engine and box.

Car was finished in October 2009, and cost me £103 to insure fully comp for 1 year, all mods declared, obviously it is much faster than a standard MGB, and with the brake and suspension upgrades handles like its on rails and stops well too.

The wheels are Chrome, but tatty, I will include a set of 5x15 72 spoke wheels, which need a refurb, but will be ideal with 185 60 15 tyres – not supplied.

The bumpers could be better, I was looking out for a pair to have re-chromed.

Massive pile of receipts totalling £5000, and that isn't the complete list, mainly Mech Spec and MGOC Spares, only the best quality parts used. So I have set what I consider a very reasonable reserve, sorry but I won't disclose it, if you arrive at your own valuation and bid it, and it meets the reserve, we're both happy.

Reason for sale, I’m 6’4” tall, and the top screen rail is right in my line of vision!!! So if you fancy an almost unique MGB, and a little tinkering over the winter, this could be the car for you.
