This is a 1970's mockup or original painting (BOCETO in Spanish, meaning there is only one. This one) for a Cuban poster titled "Afiche CDR=Comite de Defensa de la Revolucion)". I don't have the slightest idea what the musical instruments has to do with the CDR unless it has to do with the frequent parties organized by the neighbors organizations. I remember as a little girl going to the weekly meeting of neighbors. In those meeting people would discuss their problems, someone would read pieces of the last Castro speeches and at the end of the meeting adults drank a beer or two while kids were running around and playing. To play amateur drums or improvise some singing was usual and later the government catch on the idea and advertised volunteer work and meeting with a festive design (kind of like churches do here). Of course, I am assuming. This one is titled and signed by the artist Eduardo Muñoz Bachs.

Measures 6 x10 inches (23x15cm)
. The lettering does not reflect the title of the movie. It was only to show the printer where to position the title. The artist tempera brush strokes are clearly visible and the lettering in the title are painted directly on the board. This is a unique piece of poster history that I am sure will be a treasure for the fine collector.

This drawing was the first step in the production of silkscreen movie posters. This was the design that was later photographed and enlarge to 20x30 inches and this is the reason they sometimes have the crisscross pencil pattern. In some other cases the artist would mark a clear plastic instead to protect the painted image, specially if they were fond to the painting. Judge the condition by the picture. These paintings were neglected for years. Once the poster was produced, the mockup was stored in a corner box were humidity and pests destroyed 99% of them. I rescued about 100 of them, the rest was trashed. When Eduardo Bachs died, the National Museum made a posthumous exhibition of his work they only found only 14 original drawings in the entire country. The artist himself only kept a couple that were acquired by the museum. Most of all artist like Niko and Bachs rarely kept samples of their work. This is the reason these mockups are so rare and of great interest for the collector.
