This is a 1970 - 1971 R.U.C. riot helmet with badge.

This was the first serious attempt by the authorities to provide some protection to their men after the useless cork m/cycle helmet had been converted in 1969.

They persisted with the perspex "bubble" visor which created more problems than it solved. It shattered when struck with anything denser than a wet sponge and inflicted more injuries to the wearers' face than the missile it was intended to deflect.

Excellent condition. Some surface scuffing on the helmet and visor. It is just about 40 yrs. old and has lain about the inside of a riot landrover and been worn on duty many times. Ex members number etc. printed on the inside.
