I have finally decided to sell my lovely British Racing Green MGB - lack of cash has prevailed!
I have had this car for around 4 years now and have loved driving it. In this time I have been driving it lots and it has broken down on me twice. Once was faulty HT leads which had just been replaced by the garage (typical!) and the other time was a problem with some new points - the grub screw slipped and the car stopped! I can't promise that the car will be as trouble free as it has been for me, but it is a very well behaved little car! The car has chrome bumpers, wire wheels and a walnut dash and looks fantastic. It drives well too and is a good runner. I have used it regularly, but look after it and dry it off before tucking it away in the garage - typically it is raining today while I took the photos.
The car has been done up by the previous owner who has replaced some panels and fitted some wheel arch protectors and sill protectprs to keep it in good nick.Since having the car, I have had it serviced regularly and have replaced several bits - most recently a new distrubutor and some new headlights as well as the regular points, plugs etc. I have a full and a half tonneau cover which come with the car and have also got an overdrive gearbox which I never got round to installing. I will include the gearbox in the sale if you want it! Apparenly, all you need is a new, shorter, prop shaft....
The paintwork is in good condition, although not perfect. A couple of panels have recently been resprayed, but there are some small bibbles and minor rust spots on some of the other panels which are easily ignored, but may need attention in a few years. At first glance, the car is in excellent condition and has had many comments on this. I would not want you to think that the car is perfect - very good condition with some OK bits is more realistic. Engine wise, I have spent £500 on it this year so there should be nothing imminent with this - although as always with classic cars, you can never know!
I have also got a bermuda hard top which I am not including in the sale, but am open to negotiations! This is white/cream and makes the car look a little like something from thunderbirds! It will probably need a new seal, but seems good to go. I got this when I bought the car, but have never used it as I prefer to have the roof down regardless of the weather. If you would like to drive the car throughout the winter it may be a good buy!
I paid £5k for this car and have spent money on it since buying it, so have put a reserve on - but a very low one considering what you would be buying - less than my original cost. To give you some idea of running costs, tax is free and I pay £130 per year for insurance, fully comp and unlimited milage. I estimate the car does around 30 mpg, running on unleaded (with a touch of redex added every so often). It is a bargain to keep and a good, low cost hobby.
The successful bidder will need to give me a 10% deposit and pay the rest on collection. I live in North Wales and would welcome people coming to have a look at her before bidding. We will be available at weekends, Wednesdays and Thursdays or other days after 5pm. If you would like any more information, please let me know. Happy bidding!
