Funny Car Fans: This outstanding drag racing image is an 8" by 10" RC Silver Gelatin Print; picturing the famous Dodge Funny Car "Mr. Norm's Super Charger" burning the tires past the Christmas Tree. It was captured at Thompson Drag Raceway (Thompson, Ohio) on April 12, 1970 by Pro Motor Sports Photographer Charles Gilchrist. This hand crafted, high quality, print is titled and signed by the artist in black ink. This low resolution Net image can't do this print justice (very sharp).
The match race of that Sunday featured Mr. Norm's Dodge, powered by a nitromethane burning blown Dodge Hemi, verses Mickey Thompson's Maverick, powered by a fuel burning blown Ford (429 Shotgun). Those were the days when Funny Cars actually looked like the production cars they were pretending to be. The fiberglass flip top bodies were created from molds taken off stock production cars. Notice, very small spoilers on the front and back ends of the Charger and no air intake in the hood or windshield. The air feeding the engine came in from the back side of the windshield. WOW, things have really changed in the 35+ years since this photo was taken!
We will ship this outstanding print, flat in a secure package, anywhere in the Continental USA for $5.00. Additional charges apply for international shipping. The reserve is set very low for a hand crafted print of this quality, a genuine collectible. Thanks for looking! To learn more about Gilchrist Image Works, click on our about "ME" icon. Note: Our Drag Racing Prints are not ordinary photographs snapped by a amateur. They were taken by Professional Motor Sports Photographer Charles Gilchrist in the late 60’s and early 70’s. They are Exhibition Grade RC Silver Gelatin Prints suitable for Matting and Framing; and would look great in any Office/Den, Bar/Game Room, Workshop, Etc. They are each individually hand crafted, and signed by the artist in black ink. At this point in time, very few artists make Silver Prints (especially Drag Racing Silver Prints) and the value of these prints will only increase. These historical images are extremely rare and are true collectibles. Check out the testimonials from our patrons in the feedback forum. Bid with confidence and Good Luck!
