1961 Rover 80 P4, It has been off the road 9 years and in storage when I found her,Showing 71 000 miles on the clock which could be genuine, I needed a classic car to take a small vintage caravan to shows as my pre war Morris 8 obviously couldn't so it was camping only and last year was the worst for rain at shows i can remember! I bought this Rover and recommisioned it with the intention of it being a show car I spent a lot of money on a near perfect respray,I had the chrome done (bumpers, headlamp /side / stop lamp rims tow ball cover) . The rear lamps have new lenses that were hard and costly to find.the rest of the brightwork was in superb condition or stainless. The car was a rock solid basis with only two small bits of welding needing doing. It was totally stripped for paint except the windows(photos to prove) the original engine had been replaced at sometime with a Landrover diesel engine so while the car was away for paint I found an original low mileage Rover 80 engine converting it back to petrol (says heavy oil on V5) amazingly from a good friend who fitted a brand new clutch before he decided he needed a six cylinder to tow a 22 foot caravan! the engine was left untouched and it still has original grey paint on! Luckily the guy who did the diesel conversion was a Rover club area rep/enthusiast and never cut the harness and all the wires fit the engine perfectly.I spent months fitting the car back together carefully not to scratch the new paint. The original interior was fitted and is showing signs of age with a few splits in the drivers seat but other than the front seat it's quite presentable but will need carpets. I fitted a Rover tow bar with chrome cover some bolts still left to fit. All the original pannels were re-used (doors boot and bonnet aluminium)except the rear quarter cheeks which I managed to get genuine old stock ones. The car was finnished last September and started up straight away with no knocks and was quiet. Then the nightmare the clutch was stuck to the flywheel and wouldn't free up no matter how much I tried and believe me I tried so it needs the engine out again and freeing off. Basicly the car is finnished with only a small amount of work to make it into a show car. The paint was matched to the original Rover colour (5 litres with a small amount left and included) was wet flatted and polished to a glass finnish to almost concours standard by me taking months to do, There is a few small blisters that have come back through nothing serious. The brakes were stripped down and rebuilt with new cylinders & linings the front discs were perfect and good meat left on the pads. Two brand new radial tubeless tyres were fitted and two perfect tyres already fitted, All the wheels were blasted and painted then fitted with new 15 inch stainless rimbellishers, The rear of each wheel was painted with micacious iron oxide to give long rust protection (used to paint railway bridges). The Rover drove to it's garage which was 1 mile away trying to free the clutch as I drove it and has been stood since September so will need a fresh battery. Regretably unable to finnish due to work commitments and it is a very heart wrenching sale. I have the v5 registration in my name and the original number is transferable. starting price is the price I paid for painting! The car is in Cleveland in the NE of england and available to view most days. any questions ask seller or phone 01642 641319. cash on collection by arrangement I have 100s of photos taken during the refurbishment and will be supplied to the winning bidder on a CD.
