Here we have my 1957 Dominator 88, 500cc. Built on 9th May 1957. This bike was one of six dispatched to Vidal Motor Cycles of Lisbon. It has the original engine frame, gearbox and forks number that it left the Norton Factory with. The engine/frame number is M12273472. After i had it returned from Portugual, in 2006, i totally restored it to the spec in which it had left the Norton factory. The work included total fork rebuild, total engine rebuild, with +30 high compression pistons, total cylinder head rebuild, total gearbox rebuild, dynamo reconditioned, Mag reconditioned, with new armature, cam ring and bearings, new cables, new wiring loom, new rear shockers, wheels rebuilt with stainless spokes and chrome rims, solid state rectifier, new front & rear mudguards, new fuel tank chrome side panels, new exhaust pipes and silencers, frame and panels stripped and sprayed in polychromatic gray, new gel battery, seat recovered, new light switch, new head light, new number plate/light, speedo reconditioned, new stainless steel handlebars, new clutch, new primary and final drive chains, new rear brake drum and sprocket, new headlight brackets and front fork shrouds, Cartridge Oil filter fitted. Excellent brakes. I have mountains of receipts for all the parts plus all the original paperwork from Portugual with the previous owners name and address. When i rebuilt the engine, i balanced the piston and conrods therefore this is a very smooth running bike with no vibrations. A unique feature of this bike is that i have an oil tap from the oil tank to stop it from wet sumping, connected to the mag, which when the oil tap is switched off, it earths the mag out and stops it from starting and the bike will only start when the oil tap is switched on. I have done just over 2,000 miles on this bike and it has been totally reliable. It does not use any oil, and returns about 60mpg. The bike is almost oil tight but like with any Norton, there is a couple of drips from the primary chain case and the engine breather, but nothing excessive. The bike starts first time every time. Everybody comments on the nice sound from the exhaust. It goes really well. As you would expect from a bike that has done a couple of thousand miles, there is a couple of marks on the frame which i would have to point out to you, otherwise you would probably not see them. And there is a very small slight discolouration of the paint work on the front of the fuel tank where there was a pin prick in the tank and the fuel discoloured a very small area. The tank has since been sealed. This is a rare opportunity to purchase such a fine example of this model. The bike will come with a full 12 months MOT. The bike was also featured in the November/December 07 of the Norton Owners Club Roadholder magazine. You will not be disappointed with this bike, you can purchase it and ride it home with no problems. Terms of payment are CASH only on pickup. You can call me on 0117 9836702 if you want any more info
