1953 ARCTIC SOLITUDES POLAR EPLORATION AND EXPEDITIONS

This work was written by Admiral Edward Ratcliffe Garth Russell Evans, 1st Baron Mountevans of Chelsea 1881-1957, British naval officer and Antarctic explorer who served as second-in-command on Scott's ill-fated expedition to the South Pole in 1910-1913 and as captain of the expedition ship Terra Nova, the second-in-command of Scott's last expedition.
 A concise history of the expeditions in search of the North-East and the North-West passages as well as the North Pole itself with chapters on John Franklin, Robert Peary, Fridtjof Nansen, Vilhjalmur Stefansson, Knud Rasmussen, Roald Amundsen, and others, with accounts of whaling, bear hunting, and of the Eskimos who live within the Arctic Circle and a chapter on the Canadian Mounted Police which includes the true story of a lost patrol.

This is the third impression published the same year as the first edition, with a total of 159 pages plus 18 pages of illustrations and endpaper maps.

A good clean solid binding, pages are clean, all complete, dustwrapper has wear and tape repairs.
