1936 BSA 249cc SIDE VALVE B1.
REGISTRATION ANG 660 non-transferable.
Has V5c.
I bought this bike in a dismantled state from a friend who acquired it on 04-01-2002 when it was complete and running.
I have assembled the bike to see how it fits together and it is loosely assembled for the photos.
It is in very sound condition and the engine and gearbox were not dismantled except for the timing case, to release the mag/dynamo.
All tinware, frame, wheels, spokes ect, are all good except the chain guard which is ok but needs a bracket welding on.
Gearbox has had a weld repair to one side of clutch bracket support, see photo.
Engine needs one repair to aluminium lug were decompressor cable adj screw is held, see photo.
Very original from the toolbox, split handle bars and prewar speedo were cable screws into speedo head.
These bikes were used by the Post Office and were the cheaper end of the 1936 range but still made very well.
I like the design and look of the bike but prefer larger cc motor cycles.
Rear number plate at the moment is missing but my friend assures me he has it ! The original light and bulb holder are present.
Comes with three 1936 catalogues (copies) and 7 old tax discs the earliest is 1953, the rest 1950s except for 31.01.2000 when it was last on the road + mot for 1999.
The primary chain cases, clutch ect in the parts photos are all in good condition, except the brass cage for the clutch bearing which is distorted, did not see the point in assembling these for the photos.
Could not find nut for the mag sprocket so that is loose at the moment.
Also a letter from The Classsic Motor Cycle editor dated 15 June 1987 to a former owner. Content about 1936 B1s and what it looked like and that not many survived !
Viewing recommended.
Easily comes apart to fit in an estate car or roomy hatch back.
