1931 old Photo of Van Dyck Painting Earl of Pembroke


300 years old ; $200 for every year.
Believed to have been painted about the year 1640 by the great Anthony Van Dyck, this portrait of the fifth earl of Pembroke has just been acquired by a private collector for a sum in excess of $60.000. The painting is elieved by experts to be one of the few entirely executed by the master during his late period of work. It shows Philip Herbert (the fifth earl of Pembroke) at the age of 20, with long curled fair hair, red velvet cloak, and hand resting on his chest.
