Joseph Hocking, 1860-1937, author and clergyman preacher, born in Cornwall, son of the overseer of a tin mine, brother to the authors Silas and Salome Hocking, and father of the mystery writer Anne Hocking.
His novels include Cornish stories, mystery and crime, war, and pioneering historical romance.

This is the undated 1929 first edition of Hocking's story of a Methodist preacher in Lancashire which reflects his own career as a clergyman preacher.

A good solid binding with slight wear, pages are clean, all complete. Handwritten Church Prize inscription on front endpaper dated 1929.
