Your chance to own a 1927 first edition of one of the scarcer Scarlet Pimpernel titles (9th in the storyline) * SIR PERCY HITS BACK *, by The Baroness Emmuska Orczy, not illustrated (as usual for most English first editions of the Pimpernel books), published by Hodder & Stoughton Ltd., London, [first published 1927] undated, no other editions or impressions noted, this title at the top of the printed list of novels and all titles listed are prior to this one (see photo), with a gift inscription to the ffe dated Sept 5th '27. Size approx 7-1/2 inches x 5 inches, with 319 pages.

Apologies for shade variations in the photo's, taken in variable sunlight.

The blue cloth-covered hardcover with black titles to front and spine and a red fleur-de-lys on the front lower corner, is very slightly darkened on the spine, very lightly rubbed on the corner tips, rubbed and bumped on the spine-ends, some soiling mainly top back spine-corner and some colour-loss from liquid-spill on the back, very sound and not split, boards well attached, and reasonably clean and tidy on the front (see photo's). Inside is complete, endpapers sound and not split, free endpapers and cut page edges tanned but pages not generally tanned, inscription as shown on the ffe and feint name and address to front pastedown, no other writing or graffiti, hinges sound and boards firmly attached, binding tight and all pages attached, a few corners had been turned and straightened but not widespread, pages not torn, heavy foxing to the first few chapters and last few pages elsewhere mainly confined to the outer edges, little in the way of usage soiling, mostly clean and tidy.
