1923 King Gustav ll Statue Jeweled Swiss 935 Sterling

Offered is a magnificent rare Swiss export .935 sterling silver statue of Swedish King Gustav ll. Statue displays EXCEPTIONAL detail having 100% hand wroght/chased/carved and applied decoration being a original work of art. No shortcuts were taken in the making of this king, as the body is not cast construction. The face and hands have been carved by a master as they are very realistic and have gained a nice patina over time. The body is made up of hand wroght clothes, all silver soldered together to make a integral sculpture. His sword belt is applied, being made up of 4 parts; the belt and buckle, with the buckle being two parts including the toung, with the belt keeper along the lower back. The collar and cuffs are applied as well as his boots and spurs, with base being many pieces having all applied decoration. Litterally has close to a hundred different pieces making this amazing statue.

  Statue is a large one standing 14.75in. tall and weighing just under 3lbs having semi precious jewels in the base consisting of 3 cabachon garnets, 1 lapis, 1 carnelian, 1 green quartz, 1 moonstone, and 1 green chalcedony. Base has english import silver marks indicating a purity of at least .925 being assayed in London in 1923-4 as the date letter indicates. Base also has a .935 along with BM or PM. Statue also has discreet London assay marks on other parts such as hat, boots etc. and may date earlier than 1923. The 935 PM mark is the only makers marks I can locate as swiss hallmarks were not required on such wares. The Heraldic enamel shield is Swedish with the identical shield being shown in a 1594 drawing of King Johan lll funeral procession seen at : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Two_Swedish_Heralds.jpg .King Gustav ll can be seen at: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Gustav_II_Adolf_of_Sweden.
