Silas Kitto Hocking 1850-1935 was one of the Victorian era's best selling author. Born in Cornwall, son of a mining captain, the overseer of a tin mine and farmer. He was a preacher and author, who spent twenty six years in the ministry of the United Free Church before devoting himself to writing novels, journalism, lecturing, and political activities.

Jacob Craft takes charge of his ward an orphan girl and heir to a fortune and  plots to get possession of her fortune. Placed in a French convent school by her cruel guardian she runs away in the confusion of a tragic fire and is presumed dead. Then her adventures begin. A tale involving crime and plots and of course romance.

448 Pages plus 4 full page illustrations.

Condition
A solid binding with some fading of colour to spine, browning to endpapers, pages are clean, all complete.
