These authentic 100% cotton vintage look valance are made in Scotland. The cotton valance design dates from C1900s traditional country period style. MADE ON THE ORIGINAL VICTORIAN NOTTINGHAM LACE LOOMS This cotton lace valance is beautifully finished along the top and zig zag at the bottom History of Scottish Lace/ Nottingham Lace Scottish Lace is manufactured on traditional Nottingham Lace Looms. The fineness of the weave is determined by the number of threads per inch (points) and ranges from 8 point to 14 point. The higher the point the more threads per inch and the finer the weave. The number indicates the tightness of weave - 14-point lace has 14 stitches per inch. The cotton for each design is hand strung on the same giant looms that have been producing this wonderful product since the 1870's. It is the finest Nottingham lace manufactured today. Each pattern takes months of preparation.
Scottish Lace comes directly to you from Scotland's own Irvine Valley where lace has been traditionally woven on Nottingham looms since the 1870's. This "old-country" weaving method involves intricate steps which not only authenticates the lace, but give its look and feel a certain quality not found in knitted laces available today. From the beginning of the industry until the end of the 20th century, at least 99% of the lace and net made in Britain passed through Nottingham. It was only natural that lace made on machines in Britain came to be called "Nottingham Lace."

All our panels, tablecloths and valances are 95% cotton and therefore fairly heavy and hence postage and packaging reflects the cost of sending it to you. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE POSTAGE COSTS WHEN YOU BID We do give discounts on multiple purchases but because we only charge postage at cost we can only give discounts where we can save on postage costs. All measurements are approximate and please allow slight shrinkage as these panels are 95% or 100% cotton. Colours are shown as accurate as possible but please allow slight differences as your monitor may not display exact colours. If you are unhappy for whatever reason we will refund your money immediately. Please send us the panels back in unused condition within 7 days of your purchase.
We have acquired this one off job-lot of Nottingham lace panels, tablecloths and valances and therefore they will not be available once our stock finishes. Although we start the bid at a low price these panels originally sell from anything between £50 to £200. The only drawback at selling on-line is that you cannot see the beauty and the exquisite quality of the actual material and design.These Scottish made (on the original Nottingham looms) curtains are now becoming rare and expensive and are only available for exclusive shops like John Lewis and House of Fraser and companies like Laura Ashley.
