18th Cent Oak Longcase Clock
Here we have a nice country oak clock in need of a little restoration. It is by Edward Foster of Carlisle. He is listed as working there from 1750 and he died in 1809.
The clock stands on a block base and has a slim trunk with a long door with moulded edge and shaped top. The hood has slim turned columns, a band of decorative fretwork at the top and an ogee cornice.
The nice quality 30hr movement has a very smart brass dial with a Roman chapter ring, gilt brass spandrels, original steel hands and a working date aperture.
The movement is in good working order and complete with pendulum, weight and bell. The case is in lovely un-touched condition but now needs a little restoration. The main things are a piece of side molding under the hood that is missing and one side of the case where the seat board sits has broken away and needs replacing. When these relatively minor jobs and a little tidying have been done you will have a very smart clock that would retail for over £2000.
The maximum dimensions are:
53cm(21“) wide
198cm(78“) high
25cm(10“) deep
You are welcome to collect but if you can’t we can arrange delivery within England and Wales for £75 (+2% insurance), for other destinations please email for a quotation.
