history |
|
|
as chance has it, the oldest recorded exchange
of wedding rings comes from ancient Egypt, about 4800 years
ago.
in early Egypt, the ring was
linked with the supernatural, a never-ending band linked with
eternal love. For the Romans later, the ring's acceptance by a young
lady was a binding, legal agreement and the girl was no longer free.
Today we accept the ring as part of a religious ceremony when we
marry in church.
as time passes traditions change and, today, it
is not only the brides who wear rings as a symbol of their lasting
affection, but the majority of men also choose to wear this badge of
fidelity and commitment.
most people wear the
wedding band on the left hand. However, some European women wear the ring on
their right hand. Some Scandinavian women wear three rings, one each
for engagement, marriage and motherhood.
there are many
theories as to why the third finger of the left hander came to
symbolize marriage. Both the ancient Romans and Egyptians believed
that a vein - called the vena amoris in
Latin - ran directly from that finger to the
heart.

important
information |
|
|
we want you to really enjoy your experience of
shopping with us on the internet and hope to make you feel
comfortable and relaxed doing so.
all our
items are in stock when originally advertised, but are subject to
being offered for sale elsewhere and are therefore subsequently
liable to move in and out periodically. They are usually available
as part of our catalogue range, but may be subject to manufacturing
times. These times vary considerably depending upon the complexity
of the request, and although we always try for early completion, are
largely dependent upon our suppliers.
we always
do our very best to describe items we have for sale as accurately as
conditions allow. Sometimes weights, dimensions, and/or colours can
vary slightly. All weights are approximate and may differ by up to
10% depending upon the manufacturing process. This is normal and
abides by the British Jewellers Association guidelines. These
variations are usually extremely small and are natural and beyond
our control. We understand that sometimes photographs, and/or
computer screens, do not do our products the true justice they
rightly deserve. But that is the nature of shopping on the internet.
We want you to rest assure that our beautiful items of jewellery are
of the very best quality and colour, and will definitely look even
more spectacular when worn. |
