a Fox, being alerted by the distant sounds of the hunt - a fine example of Thorburn's animals - from a sporting series of prints
from a sporting series of prints. (probably from The encyclopaedia of Sport, edited by the Earl of Suffolk & Berkshire, Hedley Peek and F G Aflalo)
A photogravure of the work by Archibald Thorburn and produced by the Swan Electric Engraving Co.- a very finely detailed and warm engraving process which gives a very smooth and extremely life like result, and the print bears the indent markings on the borders from the engraving printing process and is a feature of prints of this type.
It measures 175 x 115 mm (7 x 4.5 " ) approx. plus generous borders (not completely shown on scan). It is in good condition with a little fading and some light staining around the edges of the border. It is on good quality paper with a blank reverse. This print is ideal for mounting or matting and framing.
