HAND TORAH POINTER “YAD”

Up for auction is a stunning judaica piece, Torah or Tora pointer, also called “yad” which in jewish means “hand”. This is one of a few items I have got a few months ago from a private italian antiques collector while I was dealing for a lot of silver items for my private collection.

There is no much I can say about its origin and age, though I have tried to make out the hallmarks I could not discover.

It seems to be quite old, probably it was made in 1895 for one of the marks says “O.C 1895” so pretty ancient! There are other marks on the stick: the number 84 and another mark which I could not make out. This piece is double hallmarked.

I have reason to believe it has russian or poland origins... actually I'm not perfectly sure (I’m specialized in other kind of Silver, mainly Italian) so I hope that pictures can tell more than I know about it, excepted that it is a beautiful Silver item!!!

It’s perfectly useless describing the stunning details that you can clearly see in the pictures.

Measures: 8 5/8 inches long

Weight: 28 grams.

I have reason to believe that this could be a great collectors piece…. Only I am sorry I could not be as precise as I would like to in describing and dating it.

Condition: overall good condition, surface scratches due to its age. I have polished it from the main tarnish that was present but an accurate polish is needed and I leave this to the buyer.
