Henry James writes a great analysis of the large body of work done by Daumier in his long and productive career .James covers the work of caricature by the prominent artists in that medium who predominantly worked for -Punch- They include the caricaturists Cruikshank, Leech, and Gavarni. Daumiers early training , artistic influences ,and favorite works are discussed. . Daumier was known as a great caricaturist, but produced more serious work and James covers this area as well.
