Up for bids is this rare 1889 magazine article from a prominent American monthly magazine … “ BATTLE TELEGRAPHING ” by Emmit O’Brien.( Documentation will be provided the winner of the auction indicating the date of publication,author and magazine name.SEE FOOTNOTE) This is an informative 12-page article with 8 engraved illustrations on the use of telegraph during the Civil War. An excellent account of the operations of the mostly civilian U. S. Military Telegraph Construction Corps, which constructed more than 15,000 lines in the field and assured the Union Army of continuous communications. The author also recounts the part played by the telegraph in different battles of the war. Engraved illustrations include: General Grant and His Operator * Field Telegraph - Battery Wagon * Light Field Service *and Telegraph Camp, Brandy Station. This is not a modern reprint. It is an authentic 119 year-old magazine article and a great source of Military Telegraph history. This is an excellent article; lots of information hard to find in modern sources. The article is in good condition with minor age-toning. Pages are approximately 6 ½ by 9 ½ inches.
