This is a very rare early Americana Cooking Book with wonderful detailed illustrations. Prang was know for their publications that very vividly depicted the events of the Civil War. The cover is color illustrated padded cloth. It shows fruit growing in a tree...and there is a picture of a cast iron caldron on the back cover. The endpapers are green. There is a neat owner's name and date...Christmas, 1889...on the front free endpaper. There are several rather interesting hand-written cooking recipes throughout the book. There are lots of blank pages that were never used. The calligraphy for some of the recipes is quite nice.
The book is in good condition. The cover shows some wear and is soiled. The pages are age-yellowed but clean. The binding is in tact. The frontispiece is flimsy covered. The flimsy paper is creased and wrinkled. The book pages are not numbered. The book size is about 9 1/2" x 6 3/4" x 1" thick.
