On offer here is an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) and attractive 1885 map of "Ayr shire ". Engraved on steel by W.H. Lizars.

This 1885 map was published by Francis Groome in the "Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland, Statistical, Biographical and Historical...1885".

This is a good dark image with a blank back which would look great framed. The map is approx. 9.75 x 8 inches (25 x 20 cm) plus good margins and is in good condition with 2 folds as issued.

Ayrshire (Scots: Coontie o Ayrshire; Scottish Gaelic: Siorrachd Inbhir Àir) is a registration county, and former administrative county in south-west Scotland, located on the shores of the Firth of Clyde. Its principal towns include Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine. The town of Troon on the coast has hosted the British Open Golf Championship twice in the last seven years and eight times in total.
