1880's LARGE EMBROIDERED MEDIEVAL SCENE NEEDLEPOINT AND PETIT POINT This skillfully hand embroidered 1880's era needlework picture was done by a accomplished needlewoman. A canvas was used as a foundation, and the stitches are worked with wool thread. The foundation was usually held taut in a frame as the stitches were worked in. The needlework resembles a woven tapestry. Embroideries and needlepoint are a window to understanding our history.This is one of the most fascinating collecting areas in the field of antique decorative arts. The faces showing wonderful detail in the expressions of the subjects at 21 stitches per inch in petitpoint. And the needlepoint are at 11 stitched per inch.
CONDITION: Excellent needlework, no fading, no stains, and the colors are vibrant. MEASUREMENTS: The finished needlework measures 24'' x 29-1/2''. Would be a worthy addition to one's needlepoint collection.
