 In 1860 the publishing firm known as Dean and Son, founded in London, decided to devote their time to producing toy-books and claimed to be the originator of children's moveable books. Between 1860 and 1900 they produced around 50 titles all designed for children.
This is a rare undated 1880s Victorian large fold out panel book, Leporello format, just over 12 feet in length and 9½ inches in height consisting of 12 full chromolithograph colour illustrations of the animals, birds etc in cages on display in the Zoological Gardens Regents Park.
An impressive publication most likely designed by Walter Stranders with each section displaying different views all hinged together to form a tour of the zoo showing nearly 50 of its occupants and the visiting adults and children.
Each section is 12 inches wide by 9½ inches high with card backing, the front cover shows a different picture from the others and the rear cover advertises
other Deans publications for the child such as panoramic toy books and changing chromo picture books.

CONDITION
A solid binding in good condition and all complete, the colours are bright with some slight foxing mostly confined to the bottom edges containing the text, and at considerable expense this work has had some professional restoration.
