MUNCASTER CASTLE

Size including mount is 11½ by 9½ inches.
 One of a collection of fine colour plates from a work titled A Series Of Picturesque Views Of Seats Of The Noblemen And Gentlemen Of Great Britain And Ireland, published from 1866 to 1880.

Colour printed in eight or more overlays from separate wooden blocks by Benjamin Fawcett 1808-1893, from original draughts (drawn on the wood) by Alexander Francis Lydon 1836-1917. This technique of multiple wood block engraving in colour is called chromoxylograph.
