The author of this novel of India is said to be William Browne Hockley 1792-1860 a well known early 19th century writer of Anglo Indian literature, it was actually written by Cyrus Redding 1785-1870, English author and journalist from rough notes sent from India by Hockley. The story is based on Marathas characters with an emphasis on the darker side of Indian life.

First published in 1826 in three volumes, this is most likely the second English edition in a two volume set.

CONDITION
Original publishers decorated cloth bindings with slight wear, endpapers have  split inner hinges, slight foxing to a few pages. Good solid bindings.
Size of each volume 7½ by 5¼ inches.
